For cures, check the Herbs thread. If I told you here, that would be cheating. : 3c
Respiratory Infections
Highly contagious and deadly if not treated, especially to seniors and pups. Normally caught during fall and winter. Symtoms include fevers, chills, coughing, sore throats, etc.
In very severe cases, one may cough up blood, or loose their appetite, experience breathing difficulty or delirium.
Allergies
Allergies are incurable. Seasonal allergies flare up in the spring, and can be lessened by respiratory treatments.
With other allergies, such as food allergies, one must simply stay away from the trigger.
Poisoning
Poisons can come from a variety of sources, such as plants, humans, smoke, snakebites, or rotten prey. May induce bellyache or vomiting if in the stomach, or weakness and terrible pain through a wound. Treatable with certain herbs, depending on the situation. Young canidae, being curious and unaware, often fall victim. Often fatal.
Animal-Borne Infection
Prey animals, such as rats, often carry deadly diseases, such as rabies, inflicted through bites from an infected individual. These wounds must be treated with extra care. Even bites that are not from sick individuals are more prone to getting infected then other cuts.
Loss of Sensory Perception
Canidae can be born with blindness or deafness, it can develop with age, or be caused by an injury. A Healer cannot cure it. One would have to simply cope. Many retire early or become healers.
Joint Aches
Associated with Seniors, joints can cause pain and make it difficult to move due to deterioration with age. Treatable with certain herbs.
Toothache
A toothache is caused by a cracked tooth, cavities, or an infection in the mouth. Treatable with certain herbs.
Chills
Hypothermia is a more severe case. It can kill.
Incurable
Parasites
Tumors
Diabetes
Epilepsy
Cancer
and other serious ailments are incurable by Shaman remedies. They may be helped with painkillers, but it is likely that a character will die early with any of these.
Sprains
Sprains are the stretching of a ligament. They cause severe pain and being unable to move the joint.
Joint Dislocation
A joint must be forced back into place if it is dislocated. This is very painful and painkillers/sleep herbs are recommended.
Broken Bones
A broken limb must be splinted, medicated, and bandaged. Most canines will experience a permanent limp at best.
If one survives breaking their backbone, they will be paralyzed for life. They must do daily exercises even after initial recovery, otherwise, fluid can fill their lungs and cause death.
Cracked Pads
Cracked pads can be caused by walking long distances on hard surfaces, or dry, cold air. Seniors are especially prone.
